Map of Cettatie

Cettatie is a European microstate and wikination located on the Mediterranean Sea, located to the south of France and some 80 kilometers to the west of Monaco. The country has a population of 41,670 people and has French as its official language. Cettatie is a constitutional monarchy, with Jean-Louis II as King and Michel Rochale as President.

Geography[]

Cettatie is split into four quarters, Vianne-Lesgordes, Cagnet, Port-Girana and the Quartier Marenco. Cagnet is considered to be the capital, as it is where the parliament and other government offices are found.

History[]

The region of Cettatie was awarded to Pierre le Gros, Count of Vintimille in 1215, for having aided France in the 5th Crusade in Egypt. He proclaimed himself king and his descendants ruled the small state until being taken over by the Grimaldis of Monaco in 1346.

In 1654 it proclaimed itself and independent city along with Roquebrune but in 1655 Roquebrune returned to France and the remaining land became a kingdom once again. Between 1804 and 1815 French troops occupied Cettatie, and the Congress of Vienna made the smallest award of territory to them, extending it to its present borders.

During World War II, Italian soldiers were the first to arrive and occupy Cettatie, and in 1944 American soldiers liberated it. It was after the war that Cettatie became known as a counterpart to Monaco, albeit less expensive.
