Fox Force Four is a Lovian all-female jazz improvisation ensemble, based in Artista, Noble City. Band members are Ellie Gauld (saxophone and clarinet), Nicky van Huizen (trombone and tuba), Em Rothschild (bass and vocals), and Martha Van Ghent (piano and vocals). The band is occasionally accompanied by a larger instrumental jazz band, the Noble City Blues Band. Fox Force Four was founded October 6, 2009 by its present members. Initially experimenting with cool jazz and West Coast jazz, Fox Force Four has recently adapted a more hard bop-influenced style. Thanks to Fox Force Four's performance at the 2010 Jazz Portland festival, the band gained national fame. The band has been working on its first studio album, the mainly instrumental album The Maiden Name, that was released in October 2010. A first single, "Blue Gossip" was released on December 20th.

Jazz Portland[]
The band first performed outside Sylvania on August 22, 2010 during the Jazz Portland festival in Portland, Kings. The event was generally praised as a great success. The Nova Times praised the newcomers of Fox Force Four, who the newspaper called "ultimately the best."[1] Like the Nova Times, The Noble City Times was extremely positive about Fox Force Four calling their session an "amazing improvisation [with] fresh, sizzling sounds with influences from folk-inspired music and experimental hard bop jazz."[2]
The band's performance at the jazz festival earned lots of attention from both the audience and music critics and producers. The festival's being considered "likely to become their breakthrough in the national music scene."
Fox Force Four has announced to be "eager to perform at the 2011 edition" of the festival.
