The Seven State Railway is the only railway present on the state of Seven, linking the villages of Kinley and Novosevensk. Although parts of the railway have been present for over a hundred years, the final connection was only made with the building of the Nielsen Bridge. The railway is owned by the Seven State Government being one of the few railways not to be ran and owned by the Ministry of Transportation.
History[]
Parts of the Railway can claim to be the oldest rail track in Lovia, although the oldest complete railway is the Kings State Line. It was built in 1892 across Philosopher's Island to make the transportation of fish from the northern islands more convenient. Originally the trucks were pulled by horses, but after about 1900 when Novosevensk began to trade more with the rest of Lovia, these were replaced by steam engines.
In 1925 Horatius Domingo ran for Governor, with one of his major and most popular policies being to build a railway to connect the two islands. He won a landslide victory over incumbent James Nelson, and began building immediately. The public soon turned against him, perhaps because of the unforeseen expense and some nasty accidents that occured. Novosevensk separatists also on numerous occasions attempted to sabotage the construction, which they felt was threatening their distinct culture. Domingo persisted despite his approval ratings dropping to record-breaking lows until his sudden and highly suspicious death later that year, which was attributed in the popular press either to suicide or assassination. The railway, which by then reached over two miles north of Kinley, was abandoned.
In 2011, these separate parts were finally connected and the older parts restored. Because of their unique history, the Railway has a 3ft narrow gauge, different to the rest of Lovia. However, as it is not connected to any other railway, this is not a real issue.
The Amish community was divided on the issue of whether to have a station or not. In compromise, a station was built within easy walk, but not actually in the settlement, to prevent disturbing the close community, and named McKinley Halt.
