State elections in Lovia are democratic elections in which the citizens of a state directly elect a Governor. From 1905 to 2008, they were supposed to be held every two years in each state. The 2008 elections were troublesome in finding candidates with popular support, and after King Dimitri stepped down as ruling monarch in August 2008, the states were practically ungoverned. Since the King's return in November 2009 there have been plans to host new state elections. Due to the various state reforms, elections were postponed to October 2010. The 2010 State Reform changed the Governor's term to half a year, and introduced a Deputy Governor. The 2011 State Reform changed the term to one year, with elections being held every October.
