That Pynt (IPA: /'ðætpʌnt/ or /'tæpnt/, Oceana: /tʰat 'pynt/, /'tʰatpynt/, or /'tʰapənt/) is a minor region located in the Lovian state of Oceana. It is part of the North Coast district, but lies closer to Overbanken-Forest than to any other settlement in the area. That Pynt is asituated west of the Polish Forests. Originally, the name That Pynt only referred to the western-most point of Peace Island Oceana, but nowadays it refers to the entire semi-peninsula as well. The area is almost exclusively covered with forests and no longer has any notable populated areas. In the past, there used to be two hamlets in the area, Sealton and That Pynt, as well as several more isolated farms, but after the 1903 Oceana earthquake, the area was hard-hit by a tsunami, killing roughly 25% of the population, and leaving the rest of the population homeless. Almost all of the survivors moved to inland areas or Hurbanova.

Etymology[]

The English name That Pynt derives from the Oceana name, which is a loanword from Dutch punt ("point"). Originally, the Oshenna pronunciation was /tʰat 'pʌnt/, which is still reflected in the English pronunciation, as well as the Oceana spelling. However, under influence of the native Oceana word punkt (/pyŋ(k)t/; "point"), the vowel quality shifted to /y/. In English, the stress changed from the second word to the first word, which is a develop that is being taken over in the Oceana language. More recently, especially locals (people living in or near the area) are corrupting the name to Thapynt in Oceana and Tappent in English.
