The Thomas Jefferson Park in Little Europe, Lovia is a tribute to the 3rd president of the United States of America (13 April 1743 – 4 July 1826)
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was born the third of eight children, on 13 April 1743 into a family closely related to some of the most prominent individuals in Virginia. His mother was Jane Randolph, daughter of Isham Randolph, a ship's captain and sometime planter. Jefferson's father was Peter Jefferson, a planter and surveyor who owned plantations in Virginia.
In 1752, Jefferson began attending a local school run by William Douglas, a Scottish minister. At the age of nine, Jefferson began studying Latin, Greek, and French. In 1757, when he was 14 years old, his father died and Jefferson inherited about 5,000 acres (20 km²) of land and dozens of slaves.
Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776). He supported the separation of church and state and was the author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (1779, 1786).
Jefferson also achieved distinction as, among other things he was, a horticulturist, statesman, architect, archaeologist, paleontologist, author, inventor and founder of the University of Virginia.
Thomas Jefferson Park
When entering the Thomas Jefferson Park visitors are overwhelmed by the simple though perfect layout of its grounds. A path meanders near the serpentine wall to the memorial which is a smaller version of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C.
Gazing through the pilars, visitors cannot but absorb the power of the cloudless skies above Lovia. In an overwhelming journey into history, onto the roots of Democracy and Freedom mankind unwillingly opens its soul to whisdom.
Many have come, and many more will come to feel and taste the warmth of freedom and democracy which, one day shall be part of everyones life.
